A “Bauhaus” for Ulm? The architect Max Bill and the HfG building
Guided tour through the buildings of the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm (In German Language)

The buildings of the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm are an outstanding example of the architecture of the Second Modern Age. They were built 1953 – 1955 and are among the first fair-faced concrete buildings in the Federal Republic of Germany. They still impress with their spacious location in the grounds.

They were designed by Max Bill, the first rector of the HfG. The complex reflects the educational concept, which included working and living in one place.

Meeting place: HfG-Archiv Ulm, Am Hochsträß 8, 89081 Ulm

Please register by telephone only, between Monday and Friday (from 9 a.m. to 12 noon) on 0731 161-4307 until 06.11.2020.

Lecture: What is design? A report from practice with Felix Timm, Managing Director Busse Design+Engineering

Is design primarily a matter of a pretty surface? Hans Gugelot resolutely resisted this view. At the newly founded HfG, it soon became clear that when designing technical products, an understanding of construction is just as indispensable as the ability to communicate with decision-makers or to deal with user needs.

Felix Timm reports on the practical experience of an office for product design and development, which is closely connected to the Ulm University of Applied Sciences through its founder Rido Busse – he was one of the early HfG students. Today the concept of design has changed and expanded. The lecture will give an overview of the topics and areas of expertise a modern design office deals with and how individual projects are implemented there.

Building of the former HfG, small lecture hall, 2nd floor Free admission
