Open Call "The Ulm Stool: What? How? Where?" on nextmuseum.io
For the upcoming exhibition “The Ulm Stool: Idea, Icon, Idol“, 08 October 2021 to 27 February 2022, we are calling for submissions of images and texts on the use of the “Ulmer Hocker” (Ulm Stool) in one’s own four walls, at work, in private or in leisure time via the digital platform nextmuseum.io from 19 July 2021 to 19 September 2021 in order to become part of the exhibition.
Wherever you walk or stand in Ulm, you will come across the Ulm Stool. This simple piece of seating furniture was created in 1954 to furnish the Hochschule für Gestaltung on Ulm’s Kuhberg. Built in the university’s wood workshop, the Ulm Stool was used wherever a seat or a pedestal, a bedside table or a substitute for a ladder, a table or a chopping board was needed.
With the exhibition “The Ulm Stool: Idea – Icon – Idol“, the HfG-Archiv is for the first time placing one of the most famous designs created at the Ulm School of Design (HfG) at the centre of an analytical presentation. By means of a comprehensive look at the different conditions that made the stool possible, not only a design classic becomes understandable, but also an original model of historiography is presented that could in turn set a precedent.
