In memory of Franco Clivio
Franco Clivio (1942–2026) passed away in September 2026. He studied at the Ulm School of Design from 1963 to 1968. While still a student, he began working as a designer for the garden tool manufacturer Gardena. Later, he worked for the lighting manufacturer ERCO as well as for the company LAMY. He taught at various universities, including the Zurich University of Art and Design.
An excerpt from the application questionnaire that applicants were required to complete for admission to the Ulm School of Design (HfG): Clivio wanted to become a product designer “because this profession ensures the free development of my ideas.”
His extensive collection of everyday objects, instruments, and tools was on display in 2023 in an exhibition titled “No Name Design” at the HfG Archive in Ulm.
